Coeliac UK, the national Charity for people with coeliac disease announces its support for the inaugural Freefrom Eating Out Awards 2014.
The independent awards have been recently launched by Foodsmatter to target innovation in the food service industry following their Freefrom Food Awards for the retail sector.
Gluten-free options are leading the way in the catering sector following the Charity’s work in promoting the business case which is worth £100 million a year in attracting the consumer with coeliac disease. By supporting this new award, the Charity hopes to encourage more in the sector to showcase what is possible in an increasingly competitive market.
Coeliac UK is widely recognised as the expert body on the gluten-free diet and its recent launch of an accreditation scheme has been taken up by high street brands such as PizzaExpress, Dominos and La Tasca.
Restaurants who gain accreditation from Coeliac UK have received training and met Coeliac UK’s accredited standard, including audits, which in turn mean they can communicate their efforts to customers with the use of recognised and trusted menu icons recognised by the gluten-free consumer. Later this month the Charity will also be holding the Coeliac UK Gluten-free Chef of the Year Competition which is open to both professional and student chefs to celebrate excellence in gluten-free catering.
