The day ended with a dinner for around 70 diners who had the opportunity to sample the dishes that will be served up by Culinary Team Wales at the Culinary Olympics in Germany in October.
The menu comprised a starter of textures of cauliflower – mousse, charred and soused – butter poached langoustine, cured scallop and granola. Main course was beef fillet and cheek, truffle and Parmesan potato, onion puree, confit carrot with beef jus. Dessert was chocolate and ginger cake, coconut mallow, raspberry gel, iced ripple raspberry parfait, coconut praline crusted pineapple and pineapple and mango puree.
CAW president Arwyn Watkins thanked Philip and Daphne Jones and their family for hosting the golf day and dinner at Lakeside Golf Course and Restaurant and said he was proud to bring the Culinary Team Wales to Mid Wales to showcase their skills.
He revealed that the team relied on sponsorship and fundraising to be able to compete at the Culinary Olympics.
The golf day prizes went to: Winning team, Newshounds; runners up, Makefast. Nearest the pin and longest drive, Nick Evans, Newhounds. Two on a par three hole, Dave Harding, Newshounds. Lowest scoring captain, Peter Webber, CellPath.
