Foods Matter Launches FreeFrom Eating Out Awards 2014

Foods Matter, the leading expert on food allergies and intolerances, has announced the launch of the first FreeFrom Eating Out Awards, celebrating innovation in the freefrom foodservice industry. The independent awards, which will take place in 2014, follow the hugely successful FreeFrom Food Awards which focus on the retail market.

Michelle Berriedale-Johnson founded www.foodsmatter.com in the early 1990s to provide a comprehensive resource for the thousands of people who suffer from food allergies and intolerances. Now, with regulations governing the declaration of allergens coming into force in foodservice at the end of 2014, Foods Matter has expanded its awards portfolio (which also includes the FreeFrom Skin Care Awards) and is inviting those restaurants, cafés, pubs, take-aways, and canteens that are already delivering in the freefrom arena to take part.

Michelle said: “We anticipate that the new regulations on allergen declarations will be catalyst for a major focus on freefrom in food service – to date a virtually untapped market estimated at over £100m. The FreeFrom Eating Out Awards will follow in the footsteps of the FreeFrom Food Awards in raising the profile of eating out ‘freefrom’ and setting a target of excellence to which food establishments can aspire.”

The awards were launched by patron and long term freefrom supporter Antony Worrall Thompson at the Food and Drink Innovation Network’s (www.fdin.org.uk) Annual FreeFrom Allergy and Intolerance Summit. This event was expanded to two days for the first time, in recognition of the growth in freefrom food in the foodservice market. The awards open for entries in early April 2014 and the winners will be presented in October 2014 following independent judging. Foods Matter is calling on anyone interested in sponsoring or supporting the Awards to contact Michelle Berriedale-Johnson or Cressida Langlands on 020 7772 2866.
