Employee happiness within the Hospitality industry has increased 7% since May 2013, with seven in 10 hospitality staff feeling happy at work, a new poll has revealed.
This increased level of happiness coincides with the positive growth of the economy, particularly within the UK, where the Government’s ‘State of the Nation’ report revealed that employee optimism is on the up.
However, the happiness levels improved despite a 34% increase in the number of challenges experienced by employees globally – with two-thirds of the workforce facing barriers when delivering their roles over the last 12 months, and a lack of mentoring / coaching, underperforming colleagues and such basics as poor time management considered to be one of the barriers.
Jane Sunley, chief executive of Purple Cubed said: “The happiness of employees is the simplest yet most perfect indicator as to the strength of an organisation.”
She advised employers to “ask, listen and explore employee feedback in relation to the challenges they face” in order to come up with a plan for resolution of problems.
