Speedy Service At Waiters Day Race-Hyde Park London, Thursday 25th September 2014

DSC_5645Waiters gathered in London’s Hyde Park on Thursday 25th September to celebrate National Waiters Day. The brainchild of Fred Sirieix, General Manager, Galvin at Windows, London Hilton on Park Lane, over 300 waiters raced over the course, complete with trays, glasses and bottles of water with the aim of being crowned the ‘Fastest Waiter’ or ‘Fastest Waitress’.

National Waiters Day was designed to celebrate the excellence, dedication, hard work and discipline of all 2.5 million people working in the Hospitality industry in the UK, and inspire others to consider the range of dynamic and vibrant careers in the industry.

The National Waiters Day initiative is supported and co-ordinated by The Springboard Charity alongside key sponsors: BaxterStorey, Bunzl Catering Supplies, Zenith Hygiene and ISS. The funds raised from the initiative go towards enabling Springboard to develop and run an exciting programme for schools to encourage young people to consider a career in front of house.

Fred Sirieix commented: “The idea behind National Waiters Day is to bring a spotlight to the hospitality industry and showcase what a great range of exciting careers the industry has to offer, whilst having a lot of fun in the process”.

Anne Pierce, CEO at Springboard said: “It was a fantastic event and one that captured people’s imagination. It perfectly embodied the professionalism, and dedication of those in the hospitality industry.  The National Waiters day initiative is a great way to promote our industry and encourage people into the dynamic and vibrant range of careers within hospitality”.

A student’s race was held prior to the Waiters Race with students from a number of London colleges participating in the race.

Those who attended the event also enjoyed a range of have-a-go activities to demonstrate ‘front of house’ skills and careers, showcased by key sponsors and partners, Including BaxterStorey, Bunzl Catering Supplies, Zenith Hygiene and ISS.
