Almost half of all hotels guests will stay longer in a hotel bar that features live sport compared with one that doesn’t, according to new research from Sky Business.

The study by Sky Business, which examined the revenue-generating potential of showing live sport in hotel bars, found some 42% of guests will stay longer in a hotel bar, and one in three guests will visit more often if they can watch sport, with 30% of these also syaing longer.

To help hoteliers, Sky business has redesigned its package for hotel bars to enable more hoteliers to offer Sky Sports HD content, and take advantage of Sky’s Go Further range – such as offering Sky WiFi via The Cloud.

Alison Dolan, deputy MD for Sky Business, explained: “This package allows hotels to take advantage of showing Sky Sports within their bar area, to attract both hotel guests and non-guests alike.

“Switch-on can happen in a matter of days and hoteliers will soon be reaping the revenue benefits of using live sport to attract and retain customers. Our study showed just how big an impact live sport can have and we want to ensure our hotel customers are able to tap into that.”
