Bar + Block Steakhouse Win Best ‘New Restaurant Concept’ At Menu Innovation And Development Awards

Last week, Bar + Block Steakhouse – the high-street steak restaurant from Whitbread – was awarded the ‘New Restaurant Concept’ accolade at 2017’s Menu Innovation and Development Awards (MIDAs).

Now in its eighth year, the 2017 MIDAs were hosted on 9th March at The Cumberland Hotel in London. The awards recognise the creative talents of menu development managers and group executive chefs within the multi-unit and chain restaurant sectors.  A team of mystery diners and judges visit the nominees to decide the winners across 28 menu categories ranging from New Concept through to Casual Dining and City Pub.

The award highlights the public’s interest in bringing good quality steaks back to the high-street. Bar + Block now has three locations across the country in Birmingham, London King’s Cross and Whiteley which opened earlier this year.

Winners from each category also receive a place on the Menu Innovation Network’s insight tour of Chicago in May. The five-day trip includes entry to the world’s largest foodservice event – the NRA Show; presentation of the latest US food trends; and a behind-the-scenes tour of leading Chicago restaurants.

Other nominees within the ‘New Restaurant Concept’ included: MEXIco from Prezzo and Levy Restaurants. Additionally, other Whitbread brands including Costa won the Coffee menu award and Beefeater the Dessert menu award.

Phil Birbeck, Managing Director of Whitbread Restaurants comments: “We are delighted to have received the New Restaurant Concept award. Following three successful openings in the last 12 months, this award recognises the hard work and passion behind the Bar + Block brand.”
