“Cheers” From Greene King, As It Celebrates Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning

greenekingcoffeemorningGreene King is throwing itself into its largest World’s Biggest Coffee Morning to date, by serving up coffee and cake in its 1,800 pubs across the country. For the fifth year, team members are taking part in the annual fundraiser for charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.

While Macmillan’s official World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is on Friday 30 September, Greene King is holding events from 26 September to 2 October. From selling fondant fancies and Victoria sponge cakes, to taking on static bike ride challenges, teams and customers nationwide are getting right behind the events to help support people affected by cancer.

Also getting involved are the ale-makers at Greene King, who traded their usual pints for cups of coffee, to raise money for Macmillan. The team joined forces in the Westgate Brewery, Bury St Edmunds, tucking into sweet treats to get into the coffee morning spirit.

Currently, men are 60 per cent more likely to get cancer and 70 per cent more likely to die from the disease than women, which is why Greene King is encouraging male staff and customers to join in, whether making a brew or baking up a storm in the kitchen.

Since the charity partnership formed in May 2012, Greene King’s coffee mornings have served up almost £500,000, which contributes to the £2.5million already raised for Macmillan.

Rooney Anand, chief executive officer at Greene King, said: “Pubs are very much in the heart of the community, so bringing together our teams and customers with coffee morning activities for Macmillan always proves a resounding success. We are really proud to have raised almost half a million pounds for World’s Biggest Coffee Morning so far and this year we have more going on than ever across our 1,800 pubs so hope to reach a new fundraising record this year.’

Lynda Thomas, chief executive of Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “Greene King has been an outstanding partner of ours throughout the last four years and I am really excited to see what the teams and their customers get up to in what will be our fifth Coffee Morning together.”
