The hospitality of Maitre D’ Rodney Gill at the Norway Inn has become legendary across the 40 years that he has graced the restaurant at the popular Perranarworthal pub.

Over those years, one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the Norway Inn‘s social diary has been Rodney’s Macmillan Coffee mornings in support of the Macmillan cancer charity. Supported by longstanding friends and customers, the coffee mornings have always gone down well, but when Chris Robins, Area Chair of Cornwall Macmillan Cancer Support revealed the full extent of the generosity of Rodney’s locals, even he was shocked.

Attending this year’s event, Chris explained, “Rodney and the team at The Norway have raised £9,390 for Macmillan Cancer Support over the last 4 years. It’s an amazing result and we’re so thankful for everyone’s generosity.”

Flabbergasted as the total amount was unveiled, Rodney said, “Macmillan is a charity that’s close to my heart and I’ve always wanted to do well for them through our coffee mornings, but I’d never stopped to add them all up. I’m just so thankful to everybody who has come along to our events and donated. That kind of amount can make such an enormous difference to people’s lives.”

Already looking forward to next year’s event, Rodney is planning an extra special coffee morning to take the total amount raised across the £10k mark in style. As Norway manager Steven Hawke put it, “Rodney only ever does things with style, so it looks like the 2019 event will be absolutely amazing. Watch this space!”
