“The small business community relies on the talent of EU workers and FSB has continually called for those who are in the UK right up to the day we leave the EU to be allowed to stay. A specified early cut-off date will put businesses and entrepreneurs at risk.
We need the Government to send a clear signal of their position on the specified cut-off date. Until there is clarity, small businesses and their EU employees will continue to face considerable worry and anxiety over their ability to stay and work in the UK. This simply increases the chances of small businesses losing valuable staff who are turned off by continued uncertainty over their rights.
Furthermore, the system for application for current EU citizens to remain and work must be easy and either cheap or, ideally, free. No one should be put off the process by cumbersome arrangements or indeed make the process only available to those who can afford it.”
