Calling All Aspiring Hospitality Industry Professionals

Nestlé Professional has launched its hotly anticipated Toque d’Or 2021 competition with a new format and even more opportunities for aspiring hospitality professionals to get involved.

The competition aims to inspire the next generation and provide exciting challenges and opportunities to further their knowledge and careers within the hospitality industry.

Educating and challenging the next generation

Toque d’Or is ever evolving in line with the changing needs of the UK foodservice industry and education.

Challenges are designed to test participants with a mix of both practical, service-based and business-focused tasks, concentrating on key areas such as social media promotion, business management and sustainable food and drink.

The challenges provide valuable hands-on experience and gives the opportunity to work with and learn from a number of leading industry experts and businesses judging the tasks.

New for 2021 –

  • We’ll be recognising the increasing importance of community and inclusiveness by opening up the competition to young Front and Back of House professionals (commis chefs / waiters and equivalent) as well as college students and apprentices
  • We’ve adapted the competition timeline in line with college courses, making it easier for lecturers to support students in the process, and to provide the best opportunity to hold the finals and awards face-to-face
  • We’ll be retaining a strong digital element as the world moves more online
  • MasterChef: The Professionals, The Festive Knockout Winner Louisa Ellis will be joining our judging panel for the heats

What you can expect

All entrants will be required to complete an entry task. Participants will be sent reading links about nutrition and sustainability to study ahead of completing a multiple-choice virtual assessment on 18 March. Competitors will also need to submit a one-minute selfie style video explaining why they are passionate about hospitality and why they should be in 2021 Toque d’Or. Registrations will officially close on 16 March.

The Heats will take place early April, with Finalists announced on 30 April. The Grand Finals will be hosted in the last week of June, with the Awards broadcasted live over YouTube for the rest of the industry to enjoy in July.
