MP for East Renfrewshire, Paul Masterton, visited The Cartvale in Busby to celebrate the pub’s reopening following a ten-week, £385,000 refurbishment by Heineken-owned Star Pubs & Bars and new licensee Andy Crossan, which has created 15 new jobs.
The project has transformed The Cartvale into a great quality family-friendly local with a stunning new design and a revamped riverside garden with seating for 90. Home made food with a Scottish provenance and flavour has been introduced including afternoon tea and weekend brunch. The Cartvale will also provide meeting space for local good causes and clubs and put on a host of activities ranging from live music to quiz nights.
Andy says he has been overwhelmed by the response from the community: “There’s been lots of interest throughout the work. The Cartvale has the ‘wow factor’ now and people are amazed by the difference. Residents who’d stopped going to The Cartvale, or had never even been in, are now visiting, as well as new groups such as families and women. The aim is to restore the pub as the heart of the community, so the support and feedback has been brilliant.”
MP Paul Masterton officially relaunched the pub and pulled an inaugural pint to mark the occasion. Says Paul Masterton: “Good pubs fulfil an important social function and bring real benefits to the areas they serve. It’s great to see investment of this scale in Busby, a local pub’s future secured and the creation of new jobs.”
Adds Star Pubs & Bars area manager, Campbell Dorward: “The Cartvale needed investment to broaden is appeal and ensure it thrives for the long term. Andy is giving people lots more reason to visit and we wish him well for the future.”
