Nationwide strikes by 1,000 GXO drayman who deliver top beer brands have been suspended following an improved pay offer from the company, Unite union, said.

The threat of a late-summer beer drought moved closer as about 1,000  draymen who deliver top brands voted for industrial action over what they describe as a ‘paltry’ pay offer.

Britain is facing the threat of a beer shortage after 1,000 draymen who deliver some of the most popular lager and ale brands voted for industrial action.

Speaking after comments made by Deputy First Minister John Swinney MSP on BBC Radio Scotland that ‘vertical drinking’ may not be allowed in pubs from 9th August, CAMRA’s Scotland Director Joe Crawford said:

With Beer Day Britain taking place today (15 June), CAMRA is encouraging beer lovers to celebrate the nation’s favourite drink with a pint of cask ale. 

The Government should cut duty on draught beer served in pubs and social clubs to help them compete with supermarket alcohol – and recover from the impact of the COVID pandemic.
